Sussex Beach Fest great success

The Sussex Beach Fest was one of the first in Volleyball England Beach Fest Series for 2010.
On a sunny but windy May bank holiday weekend. Teams travelled to Brighton from across the UK to compete in either the doubles, triples or four-a-side tournament at NIVEA SUN Yellowave Beach Sports Venue, on May 30th and 31st.

The day was organises so that the 35 Mens pairs and 25 Ladies pairs playing in either div 1 or 2 would compete in waves of qualifying matches during the day before the knockout stages to determine the winners. Each division additional had a Title and plate competition so that all competitors who made the cut could compete for honours in the later stages of the Doubles.

The men’s Div 1 doubles was won by Davide Grandolfo and Bero Bobus in an exciting final against Dominik Peksa and Ryan Turner.

The women’s doubles was won by Soo-bee Appleton and Katie Mintram who beat Eva Czinegeova and Jenya Livca

The Sunday Night saw the ‘Offical’ Beast Fest Big Night out with players dancing the night away in the Honeys club

On the Monday the wind dropped to provide some exciting rallies in the triples and fours tournament. Jon Williams, Katlin Varkki and Martin Stroo successfully defended their title beating Courtney Cross, Peter and Anna Dyakiewicz in a 21-15 final.

The fours was won by Andy Frith, Leasa Williams, Helen Bedford and George Anderson.

Both finals had some fantastic rallies with some awe inspiring pick-ups.

Sussex tournament organiser, Richard Reynolds said, “It was a great weekend. The level of play increased no end from last year’s event and the entry level was so high we had a reserves list. There was such a great atmosphere on both days with lots of people enjoying the matches and making new friends.”
